Biography

Tom Wallace MA, MSc, PhD

I graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2012 with a Master of Arts in Politics. After a year away from education I returned to the University of Stirling to undertake an MSc in Applied Social Research which I completed in September 2014. I am currently a PhD student in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Stirling. My PhD investigates how charities use and trust Scottish government data.

My Master's dissertation was an investigation into the link between post-materialist values and the rise of the right in democratic party systems using quantitative methods. My MA dissertation was a technical analysis of the Additional Member voting system in Scotland and its possible replacement with the Single Transferable Vote.

Areas of Interest

I have interests across social and political science in areas such as sociology, politics, and social policy. My specific areas of specialisation are in third sector research, immigration, electoral systems, political parties, nationalism and social values.

My primary methods are quantitative but my PhD utilized qualitative interviews in a mixed methods framework. Methods I specialise in include; network analysis and modelling, longitudinal/panel analysis, multilevel modelling, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and data visualisation techniques.
